St Nicks 1 V Brislington 0
Yet another epic match against a very strong Brislington side.
Its a credit to all to now see exactly where we are in terms of standards....Brislington, to our knowledge, have not been beaten in 4 years
And whilst we have pushed them close in the past the win has always been just out of reach.
This match has seen us progress to the final and whilst as managers and coaches we can get great pride in this, the reality is that its a great opportunity for the girls to enjoy the thrill of reaching a final and the kudos and “street_cred†that goes with it. This was proven with the few damp eyes that were seen at the final whistle!!!!!!
It was not a game to pick out individual performances because it was as they say a “real team effortâ€
The defence were magnificent with last ditch tackles.... clearing headers and good positioning and we limited them to few strikes on goal which were dealt with by Libby...I think she even had the one that hit the bar covered!!!!
Strength and determination got us through the last 20mins and that was just the parents.!!!
Our midfield never gave them time on the ball and we closed them down and stopped the supply to their forwards.
Up front we looked dangerous especially in the 1st half when we had more of the play and Charlie struck her penalty with such power that if the net was not there the ball would have ended up in Chipping Sodbury high street.....
Well done girls....there is an old saying in football “that you get out of the game what you put in†and you have got yourself a place in a cup final.
Massive thank you must go the support that we had from Mums, Dads, Grans. Grandads, Brothers, sisters dogs etc etc...although it has been noted that our “Tea Lady†ducked her responsibilities of serving drinks ( she kept spilling them!!!) and passed this task onto Holly.
Heres to the rest of the season and the GREEN ARMY keep marching on
A very good team performance from our girls with some strong individual efforts.
We are doing a lot of ball work at training at the moment with the emphasis on good passing and movement which the girls put into practice this weekend.
When we perform like this we can compete with anyone at our level.
We now have strength in all positions and with Charlie and Abi close to training again we now have competition for places which will give the Management a few selection headaches!!!!
Libby…Not a lot to do first half with regards shot stopping but cleared the ball well and communicated with the back four.
Showed her usual class and tenacity when she played outfield for the 2nd half.
Charlie…Probably took advantage that her Dad was sunning himself in Cyprus and talked herself into the squad!!!!
Played on one leg 10mins of the 1st half and then went in goal.
BACKFOUR
Played really well as a unit today and each player was well supported by those around them.
Reagan...Won her tackles and looked to get the ball down the line as often as possible...
Lillie...Sound game against a lively right-winger and used the ball well going forward.
Ellie...Really strong performance from a fired up Ellie..she won her headers and tackled well.
Eve.... Looks to be getting back to last seasons form.... won her tackles and headers and limited their strikers to very few shots
MIDFIELD
Danika ...Played her best game so far and she has now settled in to the team. Worked hard down the right and had a cracking shot near the end which would have been a well-deserved goal.
Chelsea.... Yet again looked class, she looks for gaps that others don’t and has an ability to keep the ball when hassled by the opposition.
Rianne...Another game where she worked all over the pitch and looked good going forward.
Louise...Improving with every game, made some good runs down the left and got forward to support our strikers.
FORWARDS
Rosie...was her usual self and a real handful for the strong Cheltenham defence.
Gemma...looking now a natural attacking player...got herself a couple of goals by getting herself in the right positions...
Looking good for the rest of the season, great commitment and effort…..well done girls.
Another brilliant performance against BOCO gave us the win we needed to secure runners-up spot for which we thoroughly deserve. As a team we keep getting better and better which was shown in the football we played against Portishead, the attitude and desire against Brislington and yesterday in an all-round superb team performance against a physical BOCO team. Charlie again led the way with her 4th hat-trick of the season. Strike partner Rosie grabbed another 2 which was just reward for all the hard work she put in. Gemma scored the goal of the day with a 25yd volley straight back over the keepers head from her clearance. But it was in midfield where the 'battle' was won and Sarah, Gemma, Chelsea and Rianne dominated throughout the game. Special mention must go to Rianne who surely covered every blade of grass on the pitch yesterday and tackled relentlessly through out the game. It amazes me that when she comes off the pitch at the end it looks like she could easily play another 60 mins . The defence kept up their recent fine form to restrict BOCO to a last minute consolation goal but apart from that they were solid throughout the game. Abi stood in at left back for Lillie who was ill and had her best game of the season. Reagan matched her sister for effort and work rate. The defensive partnership of Ellie and Eve continues to impress and gets better week on week. The whole back four now work as a unit and it's good to see the development throughout this season.
Emma came on in the second half and is improving with every game, she only came into football at the start of the season but has impressed in her last 2 games. Libby's keeping and kicking yesterday were excellent as it has been all season and it should be noted that she wasn't in goal when we conceded at the end. However, it must be said Charlie, that 'Cocoa the Clown' would have made a better attempt at the clearance that led to their goal.....!!!!!!
To sum up the match, it was an excellent all-round team performance following on from the superb performance against Brislington with Player of the Match performances from all. Goal scorers get all the headlines but we have match winners all over the team and to concede only 8 goals this season just goes to show how good our defending has been.
To sum up the season, it has been a season of transition going from 7-a-side last year to 11-a-side this year. The girls have come a long, long way since the start of the season and all look comfortable playing 11-a-side. We have all worked hard in training to improve all aspects of our game and those sessions are all worthwhile when you see the quality of football and commitment from all the players that we have seen in the last few matches.
Well done and thanks to all the girls, you have a fantastic team spirit and if you continue to improve as you have done this season then I see no reason why we won't be competing for a League and Cup double next season.
Thanks must also go to the following for their help and support this season;
Neil 'the voice' Martin, for taking most of the training this season and for his enthusiasm on the line. A great assistant manager whose motivational skills are an important asset to the team.
Mark Rallison, always there to give a helping hand, run the line, write the match reports and generally do good for the benefit of the team.
Andy Williams for his help in training and running the line.
Kevin Searle for running the line.
Special thanks to Dave and Vicky Shipp for their sponsorship and helping in whatever way they can.
Thanks to anyone I have missed who has helped in anyway this season from packing away training gear to taking down the nets.
And last of all, thanks to all the Parents, Grand Parents, Sisters, Brothers, Aunts and Uncles who have come along this season to support the team. Your vocal support and encouragement to our team is always welcome as is your sporting support for the opposition.
Looking forward to next season already,
Pete
The top of the table clash lived up to the billing with excellent displays from both teams. The last few games of the season have been very pleasing for all concerned as the team have made improvements in the style of play. All the hard work that goes behind a team can only be rewarded this way. The back five have been outstanding all season but still seem to improve through the season. Libby kept the team in the game with a penalty save which was first class, kicked the ball well throughout the game and has made a big difference this season. Lillie has been one of our most consistent players this season and had a great game this weekend. Ellie has been improving all season and looks the part as centre half. Reagan and Abi have swapped the right back duties and have been very consistent all season. Eve has made a big difference at the back and had an excellent game on Sunday.
The midfield have worked very hard all season with a lot of success. Chelsea has bossed games in the middle, Rianne has made those great runs and probably covered more grass than anyone else, Sarah has come into the team and played well. Gemma who came out of goal from last year has caught up with the others and played hard.
Rosie and Charlie have worked well together and showed some great touches all season, lots of running and stylish goals have been the hallmark of the two of them.
Emma who has come into the football late has done well to improve in recent matches. Kaya who has been away had also been improving nicely.
All in all an excellent season to date, some great football to watch and a really nice team spirit not forgetting the support from the parents. Let's hope we finish the season on a high. Very well done girls.
