CLUB HISTORY
ST NICHOLAS FOOTBALL CLUB HOUSE – HOW IT STARTED (11/06/08)

St Nicholas football club was founded in 1974 to provide football in the Yate and Chipping Sodbury areas for boys from the ages of nine to eighteen years old. The club now runs over 17 teams including 5 girls teams (2007/08 season)!. In 1979 it was officially named 'St Nicholas Youth Football Club.

The first club house resembled a barn! It had a tin roof and was not the ideal place for football venues. It was decided that a new clubhouse was very much needed, so with donations from St Nicholas members work began in 1992 to start the project.

AJ Builders were commissioned to lay the main foundations. Andy Nelson and John Smith worked like Trojans over a 2 month period to get the main shell completed.

The next phase was the E******N of the trusses and supports which was to support over 2,500 tiles! Then in came the volunteers who worked mostly on this project at weekends, these were: Andy Nelson, Mik Jankovic, Pete Amos, Bob Rogers, Nick Rhodes, Colin Rundle and several other members who helped on occasions.
Progress was steady and the work was completed by the end of 1993.

The club house that we all use today would not have been built had it not been for these members believing in the good of our football community. St Nicholas still has dedicated members who have given tirelessly to keeping St Nicholas the community club it is today.

We are always looking for people with building, carpentry, electrical, plumbing experience to volunteer any spare time they have if the need arose!

We are even thinking of ‘sprucing’ up the club house on a specific date, if you are interested in volunteering your services, please contact :- Brian Tuckfield on 01454 880416.

St Nicholas YFC receives FA award from Sir Trevor Brooking (18/06/08)

St Nicholas YFC has been awarded the FA Charter Standard Development Award, given in recognition of good practice, excellent standards and quality in grassroots football. The Club has also established links with local schools and is actively promoting its improved services to the local community.

To qualify for the award, St Nicholas YFC had to demonstrate that it is a well run, safe and organised club for young people to play football. Managers and coaches are well qualified and the club has adopted the FA's child protection policies and appointed a child protection officer.

Craig Hodges, the Club’s Charter Development Officer explained ”To achieve the Development Award, St Nicholas YFC also produced a development plan to outline its the aims and objectives. The Club is now working very closely with Chipping Sodbury School, assisting with their application for the Charter Schools Award and with coaching at the school.”

In junior football, should all players be given the same amount of time on the pitch during a game, regardless of ability?
Yes, always. Getting kids involved is the most important thing.
Yes, unless it is an important game.
No. Winning is important at all ages, so the best players should play more often.
