2 Feb 2008 - Rockleaze U8s vs St Nicks U8s
It might have been a bitterly cold day but the crowd were kept warm by
an awesome display of passing football from a depleted St Nicks side.
Against the run of play St Nicks went 1-0 down early on, however they
were quick to reply when Caitlyn’s run through the middle ended
in a thundering shot in the right hand side of the goal. St Nicks were
quick to capitalise on this and started to pass the ball quickly with
the second goal involving Morgan, Holly, Tierney, Ellie and Caitlyn whose
shot was just too high for the Rockleaze keeper.
St Nicks had several more shots and Ellie’s hard work paid off as
she put the ball past the keeper just before half time. Evie in defence,
and Lucy in St Nicks goal who made some outstanding saves with every part
of her body, fought hard to keep the score line at half time to a well
deserved 1-3.
The second half saw another two goals from the Caitlyn/Ellie partnership
with both scoring another one each. The tough conditions however started
to take their toll on St Nicks who, with no subs available had to struggle
on, some coughing and spluttering and the Rockleaze Centre Forward went
on to score 4 goals in the second half, with the final score 5 all.
An excellent display of team football by the St Nicks youngsters, all
the girls played exceptionally well, and the final score did not represent
the difference in the two teams – St Nicks were highly organised,
kept there positions well and played the best game of football so far
this season.

This development game gave us all a chance
to have a look at some of our emerging talent in the squad. It was lovely
to see some of the promising u8s join forces with the younger present

the younger u10s players produced a wonderful display. St Nicholas broke
to deadlock when Caitlin Preston lobbed the keeper after some gritty defending
by Frampton. St Nicholas quickened there passing and started to stretch
the opposition.
Further St Nicholas goals came from Jess Jefferies (3) who is really playing
some exciting football and deadly around the goal area, Emma Beurschgens,
a player who is improving week by week and has real potential, Amber Roberts,
our midfield
