28 Oct 07: Gloucester Girls League - St Nicks A 3...Gloucester B 1
07 Oct 07: St Nicks 'A' 2    V   Rodborough  0
Another win that was quite comfortable with The St Nicks team having most of the play.
The opponents were a hard team to break down and their defence played well.
in particular their keeper in the 2nd half made 4 or 5 great saves(mostly from Gemmas
efforts)
We were strong at the back today with the best performances coming from our defensive players.
We also looked dangerous attacking down the right wing with Natasha involved in  the best moves ...infact both goals came from that area..the ball being passed from the right back position with Tash & Rianne working the ball forward and 2 good crosses that Eve got on the end of and finished well.
Chelsea was back to her best winning alot of tackles and passing the ball well.

Abi and Ellie were dominent in all that they did. Reagan also got some good crosses over in the 2nd half and Sarah battled well up front.
Laura was Player of the day with a fine performance.

Well done girls ...keep it going

07 Oct 07: Cheltenham Town 15 v St Nick's 'B' 1
As the scoreline indicates this was a big defeat but if courage and determination related to goals we would have won by a large margin.  We started well as we had last week, scoring first through pressure on the defence which led to an own goal.  But the scoreline was brief and the consistent pressure told on our defenders, Cheltenham are a very good side and offensively very clinical in front of goal.  Holly was kept busy and was very brave in front of goal but after hurting her fingers had to be subbed leaving Sophie to go in goal, this was of course far from ideal as Sophie had been playing very well up front.  But Sophie got straight to the task in hand and played well in goal for the remainder of the match.

Jade, Beth and Kirsten have formed a great partnership over the last few weeks and are definitely our three lions at the back.  The three worked tirelessly throughout the game and it was just sheer pressure that told in the end.  Kirsten expertly marshaled the defence throughout with the help of Beth.  Gemma, Lauren and Amy provided the midfield and attacking options.  Amy's was a thankless task but was full of running and never gave up on anything, Gemma playing on the left showed a lot of improvement and this was a similar story with Lauren who got stuck in.  Forget the scoreline this is a team in the making, fantastic effort girls and great support from the parents.
30 Sept 07: Cleeve Colts 0..v St Nicks 'A' 7.
The phrase "winning ugly" springs to mind with this victory.
Even though the opposition were stronger than we thought, this was a game in which we felt the girls could have expressed themselves and played some good football using the skills they have been working on in training.
It turned out that we dominated but didn't really get going ...but we won and we did create a lot of chances.
Below is a comment or two for each player;
Gemma...nothing to do 1st half but came out on the pitch in the 2nd half and played very well, scoring 2 goals and getting involved all over the pitch.

Laura...Solid game ..won her tackles and played some good passes forward always in control.

Lillie...started in defence..hurt her finger in a strong tackle, came back on in the 2nd half and did everything but score...Wore the captains "headband" so I think she is more of a John Terry than a Alan Shearer!!

Ellie...Very good 1st league game for St Nicks...was awarded player of the day for her strength at the back and also for her distribution going forward...even though her 1st 3 passes nearly ended up on the road.!!..Great game

Ellie..keep it up.

Reagan...Energetic as usual and attacked well ..kept going to the end.
Rianne... Good 1st half, scoring 1 goal and then went in goal for the 2nd. Passed the ball well and started some of our best moves.
Eve... Scored 1 goal but could have had a double hat trick in the 1st half...must have had those bright yellow boots on the wrong feet!!. Did well attacking down the left wing in the 2nd half and crossed the ball well.
Sarah...Playing her 1st game it took a while to get used to the pace...had a couple of chances in the 2nd half to score....
Catherine...Scored a hat trick and could have had a couple more but a bumpy pitch sent the ball over the bar...a bit like Jonny Wilkinson.
Well done girls ...BUT...we need to step it up now and you have to put the skills we work on at training into the games on Sundays.
Finally...a mention to the girls in the B squad who had a tough game against Gloucester "A" ...they put in a good performance and kept going to the end which pleased their managers....well done girls.

30 Sept 07: St Nicks 'B' 0 - Gloucester A 8
Best performance of the season so far, despite the result it was a great effort by all.  A very good Gloucester side provided some very clinical finishing.  Holly continued her great kicking from goal and was kept busy throughout the match.  Beth, Kirsten and Jade are starting to form a great defensive partnership with Gemma supporting.

Sophie, Amy, Lauren and the Bruce are combining well and I'm sure we will see goals from this.  A good game despite the result and the Gloucester's camp comment summed it up best with "they never gave up or dropped there heads, the score was not a true reflection of the game."

16 Sept. 07: St Nicks U12A 3 v Quedgeley 0
What a great response following last weeks game.
All 10 players paid a big part in this performance against a big strong physical team.
St Nicks controlled the game with some brilliant passing aided by good movement from the 3 attacking midfielders.
All this stemmed from a fantastic defensive unit controlled by Gemma with Lillie, Laura, Abi & Chelsea not giving the opposition any real chances in the hour of play.

A real pleasing point was the way our full backs received the ball from Gemma from goal kicks and were prepared to pass the ball forward. This tactic lead to our first goal which was neatly created with passes from the back through the midfield and ended with a good run from Eve and a cool finish.

The new girls Rianne & Reagan were full of energy and must have covered every blade of grass.
More of the same in the 2nd half with the introduction of Natasha & Catherine.
"Tash" saw loads of the ball and took on their full back and got in numerous crosses from which Catherine could have a couple of goals but their keeper made some good saves.
Natasha scored a well worked 2nd goal and also got the 3rd following in from a shot by Rianne
A very difficult choice for Player of the day but Rianne's all round determination and effort won her the award. Great performance girls, keep it up.
