St Nicholas U11's Girls 4

Brislington FC C 0

In front of there biggest crowd to date St Nicks turned on the style with a 4-0 victory over title rivals Brislington C.
The girls showed no nerves going into there biggest match so far this season which is more than could be said for the Manager and Coach.
St Nicks started at break neck speed and closed Brislington down so quickly they never allowed them to play and this seemed to unsettle the visitors and they never seemed to recover.
St Nicks never looked like conceding a goal with all the players working so hard to cover each other and the defence of Lucy and Chloe for the first 10 minutes was solid.
Unfortunately due to illness Harrie was forced off the pitch and Karla joined Lucy in defence and she made some great tackles to keep Brislington at bay.
Karla also showed her attacking side going close twice when she went up for the corners.
With the non stop running of Skipper Jodie, Kirsty and Paige St Nicks soon started to find space and Jodie went close twice and Kirsty made the Brislington Keeper pull off a great save when she volleyed from just outside the box forcing the keeper to tip the ball over for a corner.
Shortly after Kirsty was taken off to let Anna enter the fray and she showed glimpses of what was to come in the second half.
Half time and 0-0 but St Nicks created the more chances and with a bit more composure on the ball St Nicks would have broken the deadlock.
In the second half St Nicks seemed to relax and soon got into there stride with some great passing and movement were soon putting the Brislington defence under extreme pressure.
With Chloe now playing in a more attacking role she got the vital touch to put St Nicks 1-0 up after a great pass from Lucy out of defence found Paige in some space down the right she took the ball to the byline and crossed and Chloe was there to steer the ball home.
This gave the girls a great boost and it wasn't long before Jodie worked her way into the box and one on one with the keeper she coolly slotted home to put us 2-0 up.
To there credit Brislington came back and Ellie was forced to come off her line to shut down the Brislington strikers and force them to shoot wide or over.
With both sides putting in so much effort the legs were starting to get tired and Anna was re-introduced to replace Karla after a great performance by the defender.
Anna was soon soon in the thick of things and was soon causing Brislington a lot of problems with her passing and movement, she found Jodie in space and she unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot that was destined for the top corner onlty to see a Brislington defender pull off a brave last ditch header and divert the ball over.
After Kirsty had broken up an attack by Brislington the ball was then laid off to Lucy who in turn found Jodie in the middle of the park and after a quick one two with Kirsty the ball was spread wide to Paige who put in another telling cross and Anna beat the keeper from close range to put St Nicks 3-0 up.
By this time the Brislington heads were down and St Nicks passing and movement was a joy to watch and Jodie capitalised on this when she powered in another long range effort to beat the Brislington keeper.
Full-time and 4-0.
I thought the teamwork and committment shown by all the girls today was brilliant and they should be proud of themselves for the way they played and a they were a credit to the club.
I thought everbody played out of there skins today and there were some stunning performances which I wish I had nine player of the match trophies to hand out.
Paige put in a great performance on the right wing where she was not only her normal attacking threat but the effort and ground she covered to help out with the defence was phenominal, but todays MCR Vehicles player of the Match went to the Skipper today.
I thought this was Jodie's best game and she showed how she has matured over the last 5 months, her committment and passion and willingness to work all over the pitch for the team was incredible.
She scored two great goals and was always driving her team mates forward it was an absolute joy to watch.
I would like to thank all the parents and supporters for a great turn out which helped the girls with all your tremendous encouragement.
Girls you should be very very proud of yourselves and it was truly an outstanding performace today, thank you.
Cheers Malc.
